Description
Giraldus appears as a storyteller or bard. His soft, grey woollen and green
linen clothes are fitted for comfort and style. He carries with him a Lyre
at all times which, in moments of solitude, he will strum quietly as he composes
some new tune. His features are fair: Sparkling blue-grey eyes shine from
his willowy face and he possesses a ready, charming smile. He has fair hair
cut roguishly long and often sports a light beard. His build is slight, possibly
as a result of his fae-touched blood, though his movements are graceful and
energetic.
Personality
Giraldus is a gregarious soul, enjoying company of magi, consortis or grogs.
He enjoys visiting the tavern where his songs and stories entertain the common
folk. He bears his title as 'magus' with a simple humility; though can adopt
a more formal bearing when interacting with the nobility or the church. A
peace loving man with weakness for stories and poetry, he bears no blade or
bow.
Magic
Giraldus does not bear the gift, but possesses two uncommon talents which
help him upon the road. His music is fae-touched and enchanted, allowing him
to gently manipulate the mood in a room by the songs or tunes that he plays.
He also possesses an uncanny knack for sensing the direction to distant places;
be they home or other destination, but especially within woodlands.
Giraldus' first impresssions of the other magi at 1179 AD
Astrius
Praefecta Orlania spoke highly of this magus, and I have seen nothing yet at odds with her description of him as an honourable and restrained warrior of the Order. Many of his House appear to enjoy exercising their destructive arts at every opportunity, but Astrius has many spells of healing for both man and beast. There is kindness in him also, despite his often grim features. You see another aspect to the man when he tends the kennels or the stable, taking time to care for the beasts there, that belies his role as permanent Hoplite to the Tribunal. The journal relates that he carries a dread sword; a gift from a pagan spirit named 'the Morrigan' which is possessed by the spirit of a renounced magus. There are many contradictions within this man, though he appears at peace with such for now.
Carwen
This former Merinitan still carries the love for wild and magical places so common within that House. His familiar, Kai, is a playful and fun-loving creature that suits his demeanour well. The journal relates that many of those magi he had close affinity with have recently passed on, and it is clear that he bears no great love for the sodales left within his covenant. However, he does not appear too lonely, for he travels often with companions; mundane and fae-touched alike. More than once he has visited the tavern when I have been playing and it is clear he takes more joy from simple pleasures than many wizards.
Cormoran
This imposing giant is most intimidating; not least, if reports in the journal are true, because he has chosen in the past to feast upon the flesh of men. At council he appears most interested in his orchards and his brewing, which appears greatly at odds with his clear capability for violence and brutality. It is clear that few trust him upon the council, though only Carwen openly demonstrates his dislike. He does appear, however, to respect Astrius; who alone seems to offer a hand of friendship to the giant. Astrius is a far braver man than I; for my part I shall give him a wide berth.
Dialectica
This troubled woman is wise and mysterious. As a member of House Bonisagus she clearly possesses great magical knowledge and interest in the magical world. Yet, according to the journal, she has borne a son who she trains as an apprentice and seems most knowledgeable upon matters of the pagan spirits which interact regularly with the Covenant. She is skilled with mentem, but observing her interactions with the mundanes she appears to utilise very little magic in order to get her own way. There is no doubting her skill when it comes to politics and intrigue, and I have much to learn from her if I am to serve as Steward to the Earl.
Medius
Our Pontifex appears measured and formal, as one might expect from a Quaesitor. However here too are contradictions, for he openly practices his religious faith and associates closely with Jewish mystics without the Order. Reading in the journal it appears his sodales consider him capable of profound misjudgement; which is not exactly reassuring. My impressions of him, on the other hand, have found him an even-handed leader with concern for fairness and equality upon the council. As Pontifex I shall take my lead from him, but keep in mind his fallibility and his belief in a higher power than the Order of Hermes.
