Blackthorn is the oldest covenant in the Stonehenge Tribunal and is headed by Nostrius, an aging Tremere. The covenant is large, with plenty of well trained grogs, but the atmosphere is tired. Well protected from outsiders by virtue of its inaccessable location in the Black Mountains, Blackthorn has little contact with the mundanes. The strong magical aura has warped many of the older grogs. Most of them have pale, almost white, skin and some are said to have developed the ability to see in absolute darkness. Morale at the covenant is poor, and it is only the presence of Geris that prevents overt trouble.
The covenant has the largest library in the tribunal containing a wide variety of Hermetic and mundane lore. The visitors' library, which may be used at the charge of 5 pawns of vis per season, is probably the best within Stonehenge. The private library contains even greater works and is even said to contain a copy of 'Arcania Mundi', written by the great Bonisagus himself.
There is a network of caves beneath the covenant. The deeper one travels, the stronger the magical aura becomes. Eloria has measured magnitudes higher than the eighth in some of the deeper catacombs. It is believed that there is a magical regio at the very bottom of the cave network, but no one has ever fully investigated. The caves also contain seams of silver and gold, although the richer veins have long since been mined out.
Politics within the covenant is generally quiet, with occasional squabbles between Nostrius and Eloria. The covenant is effectively led by Geris, and the magi only meet to discuss exceptional matters. At these rare meetings, Nostrius dominates, readily using certamen if needs be. Xeros is seldom seen outside his sanctum, and has not spoken to Eloria for over twenty five years. Some say that they once were lovers, but none have dared to ask the cause of their dispute. Gyrania spends much of her time away carrying inter-tribunal messages. Rare in her house, because she is Gifted, she spends many seasons creating items for the other Red Caps. Tyriania is the senior Quaesitor in the tribunal and is famous for her encyclopedic knowledge of the peripheral code. Lamark prefers to spend his time away; often travelling the holy lands or the continent of Africa.
Only Eloria dabbles in hermetic politics, and her influence is enough to make uncertain almost any vote at tribunal. She enjoys playing with the ambitious, particularly Tremere, but appears not to desire more direct power for herself. Nostrius has twylighted twice and suffered a strange magical malaise over the last nine years. Many suspect he will not be Praeco for much longer, and the political games regarding his successor are already afoot.
